The flowering period went well, leading to measured and regular loads.
The bud pruning was harsh, and simple Guyot pruning left only 8 to 10 buds per vine. Thanks to a North wind, which was quite active throughout the year, the vines were free from disease.
Moderately sized bunches of grapes experienced the ripening and maturation periods without encountering any difficulties. Green grapes were harvested on the youngest vines in July.
During the harvest on September 19, 2005, the fruits were observed to be in excellent health, they were rather small with a thick skin which should make it possible to predict color and structure.
The degrees came to around 12° natural. Analyses show pH values between 3.15 and 3.5 and total acidity around 4.5, dry extracts being of a richness almost never seen except in 2003.
The wines after devatting show magnificent concentration and rather deep colors. There are abundant tannins.
The 2005 vintage should be a classic, less extravagant than 2003, it will be a wine that keeps very well.
